Challenge
Developing Exercise Habits for women.
Experts say the greatest barrier to exercise for many women is free time — specifically, social norms informing how women should spend it, and the division of labor at home. Women, on average, have 13 percent less free time than men, according to a 2024 report from the nonprofit Gender Equity Policy Institute, primarily because they shoulder more unpaid household work.
WHY?
- Time Pressure: Busy with work and household responsibilities, leaving little time for exercise.
- Low Accessibility: Gym visits feel inconvenient and difficult to fit into the routine.
- Laziness: Feeling unmotivated to go outside for exercise or even to start a workout at home.
Objectives
- Design an app that helps users develop a consistent exercise routine by offering customizable workout durations to fit their spare time.
- Encourage users to start small with a 5-minute workout to build confidence and establish a habit.
- Design a simple UI that does not distract users or make the app difficult to use.
- Enhance user engagement with motivational messages to inspire them.

Research & Users
What are existing exercise app resources?
After analyzing several popular exercise and habit-building apps, it’s clear that while many exercise apps offer useful workout videos and tracking systems, their UI can be a bit confusing and overwhelming for beginners. On the other hand, habit-building apps tend to have simpler UI, focusing solely on habit formation without any distracting elements.
What we should focus on in the UI is simplicity, with an emphasis on habit-building and creating a relaxing atmosphere, as our target audience is beginners.

User Flow & Wireframes
The primary goal of this app is to encourage users to maintain a consistent exercise routine with small steps and short duration that are easy to integrate into their daily lives. Recognizing that the target users are motivated but may not have high levels of motivation to exercise regularly, we kept the sign-in process as simple as possible. The app only asks for the most essential information during registration to avoid user drop-off caused by lengthy and complicated sign-up procedures.
The UI design focuses on simplicity and ease of use, with a bright and friendly atmosphere to boost user motivation. To prevent users from feeling overwhelmed, we designed the app to emphasize consistency rather than intensity. Instead of tracking how often the goals are achieved, the app focuses on how many consecutive days the user has exercised, even if it’s just for one minute. This approach helps users build a habit without feeling pressured by daily goals, making it easier for them to stay engaged in the long term.

With a UI that’s both vibrant and friendly.
For the logo, I designed it using an orange-based color palette to convey an active and friendly impression. The logo is designed to evoke the idea of stretching or simple workouts that can be done at home, while also resembling a smiling face.

Focus on Continuous Days
Since the goal is to encourage building exercise habit, the app focuses on tracking whether users have exercised every day, rather than how much exercise time they’ve achieved. By lowering the goal setting as “even just 1 minute of exercise,” the design aims to help users build a consistent exercise habit.
